SNOW!!!

We never believe the weatherman when he predicts snow. If anything does actually happen, it always misses us by less than 20 miles. But this time, we got it! And about 4 inches of it too! The boys were ecstatic. Talan couldn't wait to call Grampy and tell him that we had snow in Texas. It was 6:30 in CO, he'd be up getting ready for work. But we waited. We didn't want to scare them calling so early in the morning. Daddy was stuck home because of all the snow, so he made pancakes. It wasn't long after Talan's tummy was stuffed that he began begging to go out. "Please can I go outside?" It was 25 degrees out with a 15 degree wind chill. But we still bundled up and headed outside.

The toughest part was piecing who would wear what. We didn't go or didn't have any plans to go snow skiing this year. So we did not have boots or snow gear for either of the boys. Levi was snuggled into Talan's gear from last year, but he was not thrilled about the snow. He didn't enjoy the snow covering his boots. He'd hollar, "noooo, nooo!" But think of that more in a whiney tone, not excitement. Here he is contemplating his next step. He gave up and squealed until I rescued him.

Talan, on the other hand, could not get enough. He was thrilled. You can't see the "tricks" Mommy pulled to make him water tight. He has jammies on under his fleece pants. Fleece won't absorb the moisture, so lucky for him, he still had a pair that fit! Then we put ziplock bags over his socks and taped them to his jammies. Then I put his shoes on over the bags. When he was a baby in CO, we put the ziplock bags over his shoes, which resulted in slippery feet! His shoes were soaked but his feet were dry and still remarkably warm. He did have waterproof gloves but the insides shrunk during the wash and they fit a little awkwardly. None of that slowed him down. He was stoked to ride his bike through the snow. Daddy helped him make a snow angel.

Mommy's snow man. Talan didn't help so much. The snow was very dry and he got flustered trying to pack the snow. I was lucky enough to snag this pic. My secret? I promised him hot chocolate if he'd sit with the snowman.

Later that same day, the clouds gave way to a crystal blue sunny sky. The big melt was quickly under way. The back yard was already a mud pit but the front was still covered in snow. Levi was a little happier this time. He stayed on the dry sidewalk and occasionally plowed through the snow drifts. Daddy was able to head to work a little before lunch time.

24 hours later, this is our snowman. Poor guy!
